Antaranga is an 8-part series of lecture-demonstrations for general music enthusiasts as well as for students looking to gain a deeper appreciation of the aesthetic thought process of Carnatic music.

A series of eight lecture-demonstrations to take Carnatic music enthusiasts through a journey of appreciating musical aesthetics. This series will be a comprehensive and authoritative exposition of the aesthetic thought process of Carnatic music with a sharp focus on practical applications and manifestations of this thought process on the concert stage. The content of each episode will be curated to ensure that theoretical aspects and technical nuances will be presented in an accessible and lucid manner with pertinent illustrations, anecdotes and insights. About half of the time will be devoted to demonstration, both for better engagement with concepts, as well as for listening pleasure. This series will have something to offer to people of all levels; from novice to connoisseur and from the uninitiated to the aficionado.

Dr. Padma Sugavanam is an All India Radio A-graded Carnatic vocalist and also an academician, with a PhD in Sanskrit and Music from the University of Madras.

Padma is the first Carnatic musician to have been appointed as India Scholar and Visiting Faculty at the Cleveland State University, which hosts the Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana, the largest platform for Carnatic music outside India. Padma also serves as a faculty member of the University of Silicon Andhra in California.

In Performance, Padma’s accomplishments include the rare honor of a double-promotion A-grade in All India Radio, and the Outstanding Vocalist award in her category in 2014, from the Music Academy, Chennai.
