Smt Priya Murle, a performer, a teacher, and a choreographer has been in the field of Bharatanatyam for four decades. A senior disciple of Professor. Sudharani Raghupathy, with Priya’s intense training and commitment to the art form, she has carved a special niche in the field of natyam. She trained under the doyen Vidwan Madurai N Krishnan (Padma Bhushan Awardee) under the Sangeet Natak Akademi training scheme.
Priya has done her M.Phil in Philosophy, focusing on Indian Aesthetics and Rasa Theory.
Priya has choreographed several thematic and group programs to note. She is the President of ABHAI., the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India) She runs her school, Shri Silambam Academy of Fine Arts (an alliance of Shree Bharatalaya). Her students also perform extensively and are recognised for their outstanding performances.
Priya along with Shreya Nagarajan Singh has started a research initiative in 2021, Parivartan, that provides grants for short term research projects.
An A top graded artiste of Doordarshan, Priya has many awards to her credit. A few of them being, Yuva Kala Bharathi, Nadanamamani, Bharatakala Bhushana, and the Rukmini Devi Arudale Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha.
The Kalaimamani, the prestigious Tamil Nadu State award has been awarded to her for the year 2017. Award of Excellence 2024 for Bharatanatyam from Padma Vishbushan awardee Dr. Umayalpuram Sri.K. Sivaraman as part his of Laya Lavanya Trust. She received the Seva Kala Bharati in 2024 from Bharat Kalachar Chennai and the Natana Rasamamani from Rasa- Arpita and Madras South Lions Charitable Trust in Dec 2024.
Priya was the Convenor for the Natyadarshan conference held in December annually by Kartik Fine Arts, Chennai for two years that was critically acclaimed.
Priya has been hailed as a torch bearer of her generation with her commitment to her art.
