Samhitha; the confluence of Music and Dance

Bharathanatyam by Divya Devagupthapu
Ranjani Ramakrishnan – Vocals

samhitA – a communion of artistic minds
a collaboration between Ranjani Ramakrishnan (Vocal) and Divya Devaguptapu (Bharatanatyam)

In Samhita, dance and music come together to form a holistic expression. The performance draws from the various improvisational elements of Carnatic Music – including aalapana, taanam, neraval, kalpana swaram and viruttam, bringing alive a spontaneous and in the moment unfolding of creative expression, of both the musician and dancer. Samhita also comprises of original pieces that the two artists have composed together, where the dance and music seamlessly come together but aren’t the only elements in the dialogue. The artists holistic approach and passion towards all the aspects the make up the music and dance including the philosophy, metaphor, poetry and aesthetic sensibilities, together inform and guide each others response. Samhita is a celebration of this artistic connect and understanding making the in-performance dialogue come alive each time.

As artistic minds, Ranjani and Divya share a synergy that goes beyond individual prowess. Their communion happens in a shared space of art that is passionate, expressive, purposeful and most importantly spiritual! SAMHITA celebrates the synergy of these two artistic minds.
