Syama Sastri (1762–1827) is thought to be the least known of the great trinity of carnatic composers of the this period. His bhakthi laden compositions in three languages have survived despite his not having many disciples. His swarjathis alone are thought to be sufficient to place him among the great carnatic composers of all time.
This chamber concert will be an aural portrait of this composer of Thanjavur through his compositions. The program will include a brief biographical introduction followed by the concert.
These three talented artists will attempt to take us to 18th century Thanjavur and give us a few glimpses into the music and personal of Syama Sastri.
