Enrich the lives of all central Ohioans by bringing and presenting the best performing artists and traditional classical music and dance programs of India to Columbus and vicinity
Dhvani, as the name implies, is about the performing arts of India. With an emphasis on Carnatic music and the cultural heritage and performing arts of South India, Dhvani has been started in order to have a robust organization to bring rich and diverse music and dance programs and other cultural events into Columbus and central Ohio and enrich the lives of all of us who live here.
Our goals and activities are as follows:
There are more than 300 families in central Ohio with children who are learning Carnatic music or Bharatanatyam and/ or other traditional performing arts of India in our community and more than a dozen teachers. We are fortunate to also have a diverse group of musicians, music lovers and connoisseurs in our midst. Dhvani is also for all of these groups. . We reach out beyond the Indian community to local colleges, schools and universities and create educational and cultural experiences for the entire region.
One of the greatest gifts we have inherited is the intact culture of our ancestors, which has been given to us by our forefathers. We think it is an imperative that we sustain, cherish and nurture this culture – that which we think makes us ‘Indian” and pass it along to our children as so many who have come before us have done.
Dhvani intends to promote up-and-coming artists, artists who represent the best of our tradition as well as leading and popular exponents. We will be working with local teachers, leading exponents as well as schools and colleges. Our trustees all have deep roots in this community and we look to you all to participate and help this organization flourish.
Dhvani will also provide performance and workshop opportunities for the many North America based artists and teachers who excel in music and dance traditions of India.
Dhvani is AN ALL VOLUNTEER organization. None of our volunteers are paid for their services and many of them contribute both their time as well as their money to promote the activities of Dhvani.
