Tuesday October 17th and Wed October 18th – 6:15 PM – 8:30 PM EDT
VIGNESH ISHWAR | SUMESH NARAYANAN | ANIRUDH ATHREYA
Karnatik performance today has the voice, violin, mridangam, kanjira/ghatam/morsing all playing together, in tandem, or individually. In this session, we will try and “deconstruct” the performance of Karnatik Music. In a performance, multiple things are happening behind the composite final sound that one hears. We will be going into some detail about what happens on stage while we perform together from the point of view of the various instruments on stage. We will also be listening to various pieces of music and talking about what to watch out for and how to try and enrich the listening experience.
This is an appreciation and break-down session for musicians/performers and connoisseurs, and even if you listen for pleasure, there will be many things you can take home with you, which we hope will enrich your listening experience. Joining me will be my friends and amazing artists Anirudh Athreya and Sumesh Narayanan, and there will be singing/playing and a lot of listening to some great music! Join us for this very special occasion.
This is a two-evening event to celebrate Navarathiri and learn to enjoy this music.
A light dinner with sundal is included.
