Thank you for your interest in the 2019 Children’s Music Competition.
In order to encourage children in the community who learn Carnatic music and have an opportunity to showcase talented youngsters, Dhvani organizes a competition event. The competition is held each year in fond memory of our charming friend and mentor, the late Sri S. Tyagaraja Rao. Rao mama was an indefatigable connoisseur of Carnatic Music as well as an ardent supporter of children’s music. In his memory we dedicate ourselves to keeping this art form alive in our minds and hearts.
The competition is judged by a group of professional Carnatic musicians invited specially for this occasion. The individual singing is followed by an awards ceremony and concert for the children. Children come from as far as Detroit, Pittsburgh, Washington DC and New Jersey to participate in this event. We encourage parents and children to think of this as an opportunity to share and learn more than to compete and win. We think of all our participants as winners.
The competition will be held between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on April 6, 2019.
The categories and reporting times have been finalized and are shown on the right. In our efforts at reducing waiting times for participants and their families, we have staggered reporting times for the various age and instrument categories. Please plan to arrive no later than the reporting time shown for each category. Participants required to remain in the competition room from start to the finish of their categories so every participant can perform without disturbance and have the same audience. The awards ceremony will be held at or shortly after 4 PM and after the last group has completed.
