Thank you for your interest in the 2022 Children’s Carnatic Music Competition.
In order to encourage children in the community who learn Carnatic music and have an opportunity to showcase talented youngsters, Dhvani organizes a competition event. The competition is held each year in fond memory of our charming friend and mentor, the late Sri S. Tyagaraja Rao. Rao mama was an indefatigable connoisseur of Carnatic Music as well as an ardent supporter of children’s music. In his memory we dedicate ourselves to keeping this art form alive in our minds and hearts.
The competition is judged by a group of professional Carnatic musicians invited specially for this occasion. The individual singing is followed by an awards ceremony and concert for the children. Children from as far as Detroit, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, and New Jersey have joined to participate in this event. We encourage parents and children to think of this as an opportunity to share and learn more than to compete and win. We think of all our participants as winners.
Due to the impact of the ongoing pandemic, we are offering both an in-person and remote option for children to participate and compete. All participants have eligibility to choose between either of the two options:
The in-person competition will be held between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM EST on March 12th, 2022 at the Dublin Rec Center. We will require that all in-person participants and accompanying adults are fully vaccinated and be willing to wear a proper mask always covering nose and mouth, other than when they are on stage to perform.
The remote participants will be offered an evening, 7 pm to 9 pm EST timeslot, on March 8th, 9th, or 10th to join a Zoom call..
The exact categories and time slots will be published once all the registrations are processed.
The prize winners will be announced in a Zoom call on Sunday, March 13th at 12pm EST.
All times are given in Eastern Standard Time.
