Kavita is an ardent student of Bharatanatyam and has trained under several gurus, including Smt. Meera Chandrashekar (Nagpur, India), Smt. Ramya Ramnarayan (Dayton, New Jersey), Smt. Vidhya Subramanian (Cupertino, CA), and Smt. Poornima Ashok (Bangalore, India). She continues her advanced training in Abhinaya with Smt. Bragha Bessell.
She has four solo thematic dance productions to her credit: “Kodaiyin Kanavu” (Andal’s nAchiyAr thirumozhi), “nAtya rUpa sangIta rAmAyaNam” (select compositions from rAmanAtakam), “sapta dhArA” (an exploration of the number 7), and Ānandam (Infinite Bliss) which she has staged in many venues. In recent years, she has given many solo performances in esteemed venues in India and the US. She was recently nominated for the IZZIES award for her work, “Anandam”. She co-curates an annual dance festival in the bay area called IDIA – the vision for IDIA is to bring highly talented artists and motivate speakers from around the world to the bay area to perform, inform, and educate.
