Registration Deadline February 5th 2016

In order to encourage children in the community who learn Carnatic music and have an opportunity to showcase talented youngsters, Dhvani organizes a competition event.  The competition is held each year in fond memory of our friend and mentor, the late Sri S. Tyagaraja Rao. Rao mama was an indefatigable connoisseur of Carnatic Music as well as an ardent supporter of children’s music.  In his memory we dedicate ourselves to keeping this art form alive in our minds and our hearts

The competition is judged by a group of professional musicians invited specially for this occasion.  The individual singing is followed by an awards ceremony and concert for the children. Children come from as far as Detroit, Pittsburgh, Washington DC and New Jersey to participate in this event.  We encourage parents and children to think of this as an opportunity to share and learn, more than to compete and win. We think of all our participants as winners.

The 2016 Competition will be held on Saturday March 5th. The deadline to register is February, 5th 2016.

COMPETITION REPORTING TIMES

We are trying to make things a bit more convenient for participants by having staggered reporting times on the day of the competition. The following are the final categories and reporting times based on the registration. We have a large number of participants and a fixed window of time. To avoid disappointments, please arrive and report to the desk as shown below.

• Age 14 – 16 – 8:30 AM
• Age 12 – 13 – 8:30 AM
• Age 10 – 11 – 9:30 AM
• Age 8 – 9 – 10:00 AM
• Age 5 -7 – 10 AM
• Instruments and percussion – 10:30 AM
