Archana & Aarathi (Twins) are the great grand nieces of renowned composer Gayaka Harikeshanallur Muthaiah Bhagavatar and great-granddaughters of Sangita Kalanidhi T.L.Venkatarama Iyer. They began learning Carnatic music from a very young age in Andhra Pradesh and later shifted base to Chennai to pursue music. They have had advanced coaching from Sangita Kalanidhi Smt.R. Vedavalli. They have completed a 3-year course from the Advanced School of Carnatic Music (ASCM) from The Music Academy, Madras.
Both Archana & Aarathi have done their Bachelor of Engineering(B.E) from Anna University in Electronics and Instrumentation, where Archana received a Gold medal for being the topper in her department.
Archana & Aarathi gave their debut performance at the age of 7. They have given more than 300 vocal concerts under the auspices of several reputed arts and cultural organizations in various parts of the country and abroad. They have been performing in all major sabhas in Chennai during the December Margazhi festival, some of the sabhas include The Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha, Naada Inbam, Vani Mahal, Brahma Gana Sabha to name a few. They have also sung in the Margazhi Utsavam for Jaya TV and been a part of Charsur arts Foundation Sangeethotsavam for many years.
They gave a special Tribute concert to Bharat Ratna Sangita Kalanidhi Smt. M.S.Subbulakshmi in Bharat Kalachar in 2004. They have provided vocal support for Girish Karnad’s play “Nagamandala” organized by the Madras Players. They have sung for Sun TV, Podhigai, Vendhar TV, Sun Music and SVBC Nada Neerajanam. They have also been a part of Vindhya Cultural Association’s Tyagaraja & Purandaradasa Festival, Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival, San Diego festival, Toronto and Ottawa, and a few other places in North America.
Archana & Aarathi are the recipients of a Scholarship from Sangeet Natak Akademi for ‘Padams and Javalis’ under Smt.R.Vedavalli.
They have been awarded the very prestigious D.K.Pattammal Award instituted by “Karthik fine arts” for the year 2019. They have also been awarded the “M.L.Vasanthakumari Award” by Shri Krishna Gana Sabha in the year 2015. They were chosen as “The Most Promising Young Musicians” by The International women’s Association IWA, Chennai Chapter. They were awarded “Padma Bharati” by Padma Sarangapani Cultural Academy, Chennai, and “Sangeeta Bala Brahmam” by Gyanananda Swami Tapovanam.
